Here at Paul Verity Opticians, we are proud to present Japanese brand Masunaga. The company was started in 1905 in Fukui, where 97% of Japanese-made optical frames are manufactured. Company founder Gozaemon Masunaga helped put Japan at the forefront of global eyewear manufacturing, calling in the most skilled craftsmen from Osaka and Tokyo, and going on to create one of the finest optical brands in Japan.
There are more than 200 manual processes involved in making an optical frame and at Masunaga headquarters they are in control of all of them. This slick, in-house system insures the highest possible quality with any problems being solved straight from the source. Always experimenting with new technologies and techniques, the skilled craftsmen are continually looking for new ways to combine traditional Japanese materials with high-tech methods. More than 100 years after its establishment, the employees of Masunaga are proud to stand by their code of conduct:
“We manufacture excellent eyeglasses. We want to make a profit if we can, but we don’t hesitate to take a loss. It is always in our thoughts to manufacture excellent eyeglasses.”
Having made glasses for everyone from Emperor Hirohito to Robert De Niro this could surely be one of the finest optical brands out there.
