Optomap Daytona Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imager

We work hard to update and refine the eyecare service that we provide for you. To ensure that your examination is the most advanced and comprehensive possible we have made a very significant investment to bring in a brand new OPTOS DAYTONA retinal scanning machine to Ilkley.

This revolutionary machine provides up to a 200 degree digital scan of your retina which is instantly displayed on screen to allow our skilled optometrists a much wider field of view than ever before. For the first time, this breakthrough in examination technology allows them to see the full periphery of your retina, thus highlighting any potentially sight threatening changes. Your images will then be securely saved so that we can compare them at each examination to spot any changes early.

Please ask for DAYTONA when booking your appointment at our Ilkley branch.

What is Optomap?

Optomap can take an image of up to 200 degrees of the back of your eye, through as small as a 2mm pupil and it captures in 0.25 seconds. It can look at changes on a cellular level which cannot be seen by the naked human eye.

This allows our Optometrist to see much more of the back of the eye than ever before in order to check that everything is healthy.

  • As well as checking your visual health, it can also pick up on some general health conditions too. E.g. Diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, even some types of tumours can present in the eye
  • We can take an auto fluorescence image that looks at what is happening on a cellular level at the back of the eye which cannot be seen with the naked human eye
  • It gives our Optometrist a starting image that they can then compare and refer to time and time again, to look for even the most subtle changes in your eyes, which we might not ordinarily see
  • It has been proven time and time again to not only save peoples sight, but in some cases to save peoples’ lives, as diseases are often detected that could have been missed
