A gentle approach for young patients

We understand that visiting the opticians can be a new experience for children. As parents ourselves, we take a calm and patient approach to every examination.

Our optometrist carries out the full examination in the testing room, taking the time to explain each step in a way children can understand. With gentle encouragement, we help children relax and give their best responses during the test.

As your child becomes familiar with us, we can introduce additional tests when needed. This allows us to build a clear understanding of their vision and eye health as they grow.

Our aim is to support your child’s eye care throughout their school years and beyond.

NHS eye examinations for children

Eye examinations for children are funded by the NHS until the age of 16, or until their 19th birthday if they remain in full-time education.

Regular eye tests help ensure your child can see clearly at school and during everyday activities. Some vision problems may not always be obvious, which is why routine examinations are important even if your child has not mentioned any concerns.

If we detect a vision problem, we will explain everything clearly and guide you through the next steps.

Managing myopia in children

Short-sightedness, also known as myopia, is becoming increasingly common in children. It causes distant objects to appear blurred and often progresses as children grow.

At Verity Opticians we offer modern solutions designed not only to correct vision but also to help manage the progression of myopia.

Myopia control spectacle lenses

We provide MiYOSMART lenses from Hoya, specially designed spectacle lenses created to slow the progression of myopia in children while providing clear vision.

These lenses look just like normal glasses but use advanced optical technology to support healthy eye development.

Myopia control contact lenses

For suitable children, we also offer MiSight contact lenses from CooperVision.

These soft daily disposable lenses are designed specifically for children and have been developed to help manage the progression of myopia while allowing clear and comfortable vision.

Our optometrist will explain whether these options may be suitable for your child.

Children’s frames designed for comfort

Choosing the right glasses is important for both comfort and confidence.

We offer a range of high-quality children’s frames designed to be lightweight, durable and comfortable for everyday wear.

Tomato Frames are particularly popular for younger children. They are flexible, lightweight and designed to stay securely in place, making them ideal for active lifestyles.

For children who enjoy colour and creativity, See Creatures frames allow you to customise the front and sides in different colour combinations. This makes choosing glasses a fun experience and helps children feel proud of their new frames.

Our team will carefully adjust the frames to ensure they fit comfortably and provide the best possible vision.
